More Virus Help

Had a mate visit today.....

 

He got all virused up and needed a hand. I installed a trial version of Norton, which found two diallers on his machine and removed them.

 

However, on booting up the machine, a small grey rectangle appears with the words 'Please wait...' as a heading and 'Accessing...Requesting' in the acual box itself. Click ctrl+alt+del and it shows up as 'Please wait...' in the list of programmes running.

 

Looked too nasty to hook up to the 'net - anyone got any idea what it may be?

Do these #1 #2, #3, #4, #5

 

#1 - kill all running apps. Specifics depend on OS version which you didn't mention

 

#2 - RAV Online Scan

 

#3 - Ad-aware[/url - download, install, update, run, and get rid of all found.

 

#4 - Spybot Search & Destroy download, install, update, run, and get rid of all pre-checked (and in red I think) items.

 

#5 - Smack your friend sharply in the side of his head to get his attention and then tell him he's an idiot and if he ever runs without up to date AntiVirus software again, to see someone else for help.

 

If these leave him with a system that still isn't right, it's wipe-out, format, install time.
