I recently downloaded a trial version of a Computer "Cleaner" (I think it was Window Cleaner, or something similar).

I ran it, but didn't like it, so uninstalled it.

I reset all my "approved" cookies (as it had wiped them out), but I have lost the facility to remember passwords.

When I log in anywhere, the Microsoft box pops up and asks if I want the password remembered, I say "Yes", but next time I log in, It hasn,t remembered and we go through it all again.

Does anyone have the answer ?

Its not a life threatening experience, but it is irritating.

Several possible problems that stop them being remembered.

I'm feeling lazy this morning (well, morning here) so will just suggest you go to http://www.windowsbbs.com/index.php and use the search facility. Look for 'remember password' (without the quotes) and there should be quite a few threads with the same basic question and various answers.

Sorry Newt, the Search/FAQ facility on that Forum, seems to be about the Forum itself.

It doesn,t search for subjects posted on the Forum.

Hmmmm.

OK. Just logged off the site and tried the link. It doesn't work unless you are registered and logged in. Hadn't realized that.

Thanks Newt, I will work my way through those options.

I had already tried the, Tools---Internet Options----Content----Auto Complete option and the box was checked to remember passwords.

The popular suggestion is to Run "regedt32".

When I do this , HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftProtectedStorageSystemProvider (which I have to alter) doesn't exist.

Surely System Cleaner couldn,t have deleted it ?

EDIT NOTE: I went back to the day before I installed System Cleaner and did a System restore.

All is now well.

Glad it's working. Be interesting if you could now find that registry item.
