Clock problems

Recommended Posts

Despite my Athlon 2600+ running a bit on the slow side, the system clock is frequently found to be an hour or two fast.

Not sure if it is a gradual gain or not as I only notice it when a scheduled take starts earlier than expected.

I know the machine needs a good clear out of accumulated rubbish, but for now I would like to know if there are any system faults.

Thanks.

Thanks chesters, but as far as I know it does not happen every day and I switch off completely at night as sleep mode is not working on this WinXP SP1 machine.

Just checked and it is set to GMT and syncronising with window.time.com on internet connection startup.

is the bios clock the same time as the windows one? ,setting the bios clock rather than the windows one may fix it (or maybe not)

enter your bios by (usually) keeping delete pressed as the machine boots ,the basic settings are usually in the first line on the box that appears (some p.c`s use other keys to get in the bios).

p.s dont play with the bios settings apart from the clock, careless hands can totally wreck your machine remember to save changes as you exit bios

Thanks chesters.

That means I will have to change the keyboard on the machine before boot-up. These new fangled wireless keyboards do not come online until well after the bios setup screen has loaded, in fact they wait for Windows to load before you can use them for any imput.

Just thought I would pass this on in case anyone is thinking of buying a machine with this type of keyboard, so they will know to hang on a wired keyboard for emergencies and accessing the bios setup.

Is the clock really 1-2 hours fast or 22-23 hours slow?

Check your motherboard battery!

Try shutting down windows but not the power supply.

If I switch off the power supply my clock loses time, as the battery needs replacing and I have not got around to doing it.

This might help, but I can't remember.

Aida32 is now something else and is available here:

It would not hurt to replace your battery, about £2.50.
