Agfa Snapscanner 1212P

I have been given one of these without a power adapter (250v AC - 15v DC) Do I need the makers adapter or will a 'universal' one do?

it depends on the amps needed .and ofcourse the polarity if its mentioned anywhere ,the cheap universal ones may run it but probably overheat and fail when the thermal cut out works ,you can find higher ampage ones but more amps = more price ,keep an eye out at car boots

Chesters - It says 1 amp and doesnt give polarity. It Shows: - 0 + does that help.

yep positive is + ,3 connectors ? the - = neg no connection on 0 ,you will have great trouble getting a 15v psu your only bet is to scour carboots etc ,the common universal ones usually only go to 9-12v

if you do find one check its DC out not AC

the AC symbal is a wavy line DC is a horizontal line with dots parralel to it just above.

just re-read your first post :confused: it should be 230/40 AC volts in and ???? is it DC OUT OR AC OUT :confused:

thats a pity i`v just had a look through my box full and could only come with a 2amp 15v AC i fear you will pay more for a psu than a new scanner

your best bet is the nearest recycling center (most have "recycled" items to sell ) or car boots ,sorry i couldnt help ,remember to get one at a higher output than one amp as 1 amp is probably the minimum it runs on and positivly make sure its DC out not AC ,the end that plugs into the scanner can be bodged to fit
