Perch & Wire (again)

Steve Walker

Recommended Posts

Prawns might work, but my impression is that if the rumoured big perch exist, they are scarce, and it is absolutely stuffed with tench. I've fished it for perch in the middle of winter with lobs and caught nothing but tench. It's also one rod only.

Is it deep or shallow Steve? If it has some depth you could avoid the tench to some extent by fishing off-bottom? Popped-up lobs maybe?

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Contact Anglers Rendezvous in Glasgow. They do a 24lb 49 strand available by the metre that is ideal for perch or discreet pike fishing. It's brown, very thin, supple, knotable and crimpable (dunno how it twists...never tried) but I use it anywhere that has pike in there along with the perch and it makes no difference to my catch rate that I can see. Great stuff and worth investing in. It's slightly more expensive than most wires but it is for a very specific application but it's very hard to kink or damage so it's lifespan is excellent.
