Hello all, I'm having problems with Outlook Express freezing after typing a few letters. The cursor can't be moved and I end up having to unplug the computer at the mains. Everything else is ok, I also use Hotmail which is fine, Im just having this problem with Outlook. Norton is installed and up to date, nothing has been picked up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid that my best advice would be to ditch Outlook express and download Mozilla Thunderbird. There ain't as much malware targetting thunderbird.

Also if Norton is all you are running you may well have a lot of nasties on your system you know nothing about.

Do a search on this forum for free software to check and clean your system.

Yep ...

AdAware and AVG and possibly SpyBot.

These three running together will keep most nasties at bay !! :P:P

The Older I get .. The better I was.

Oh mustnt forget startupmonitor which kindly tells you when something tries to add itself to your start up list which happens very frequently without most people ever knowing. This gem gives you the option of denying the program access.

I installed startupmonitor but it forbade me to have my Wanadoo dial-up program in the startup list. It wouldn't even allow me to restore it manually. In the end I had to do a system restore to put everything back to normal.

????? Doesnt sound like the same thing peter, this program doesn't forbid access. It asks the simple question do you want to allow this program in the startup list y/n and if you type yes in it goes and the opposite for no.

Those things alraedy in the start up list stay there

untill you remove them.

Perhaps you had a virus playing tricks on you?

startup monitor displayed the Wanadoo DUN file in its list, but it didn't have a tick against it and it wouldn't let me put one in. When I checked, the DUN file had been removed from the startup folder. It had been in there immediately before.
