Weird Printer Death

Elton

Recommended Posts

I've had a Xerox Docuprint P12 for years. It's great for work, as the toners last ages!

Sadly, I think it died yesterday :(

When I go to print, the printer kind of 'winds up', as if it's about to print, but then does nothing, the whining dies and all the lights come on.

I was particularly gutted, as I'd bought a new toner for it and that didn't fix the problem.

I may hit it with a hammer in one last attempt to resurrect it.

It will be once you hit it with the hammer  :(

To be honest you can buy printers so cheap these days that when they go wrong I just bin 'em.

I got an HP LaserJet 1010 about a year ago for £60 from Dabs, and it's been great. But the old docuprint was a class machine, it doesn't surprise me it's lasted so long.

The only thing I would try is power off and unplug, give the whole machine a real good clean, and plug back in. Probably worth it as you just bought a new toner!

Sound like the fuser,

Do the lights flash in a pattern?

if the paper doesent move from the tray clean the little rubber "prods" (thet move the paper from the tray) with warm soapy water DO not use anything else it cracks the rubber ,clean all the wheels in the papers path DO NOT touch the green roller check for bits of stuck paper or (i'v found them myself in fixing the things) paper clips or staples etc.

try again

if the paper comes out with a print that smudges ,then your fuser has gone ,the lights as suggested point to the problem or if it has a screen a code will appear,in the handbook (or a www search) the codes will be explained pointing to the fault.

make sure the printer software hasent changed the "source" i.e where the paper comes from ,to tray 2 or manual etc

The lights all come on and stay on. The handbook said to unplug the printer and call support! LOL

I may well have a go at the cleaning thing, but fear that a trip to Makro is imminent.
