the abrasion resistance of 10lb braid is far too low, plus the likelyhood of breakages on casting is too great. braid should always be chosen on diameter rather than breaking strain. i use a minimum of 30lb

for small lure fishing going up to 100lb for bugger plugs

WHAT THE HELL IS A BUGGER PLUG

back to sensibility, the point of using braid is that you can use lower diameter line for a given breaking strain. I only use 10lb braid when fishing weedy muddy lakes, not rocky ones, and I use 15ft of 20lb mono casting leader. It would be mad to cast with the braid alone, as it would cut through yer finger!

I have to disagree there Dan.

I cast braid without any mono and still have all my fingers.

I'd never cast braid without a shock leader for any form of power casting, but for lure fishing I use 20lb on fixed spool spinning reels, and up to 80lb on baitcasting multipliers for heavier lure...all without mono leaders, no problems.
