I got an Abu centre drag fixed spool which I use for lure fishing on and of the boat. I've caught tope on it to 25lb no problem, mind you the drag washers are huge.

1 on the lure is worth 2 from the bait.

Baitrunners pioneered by Shimano (I think!) are like a second very light drag on a fixed spool reel allowing fish to take line with the bail arm down.

There's usually a drag tension adjuster for the baitrunner which is set very light and there is a lever on the reel to activate the baitrunner. When the baitrunner is turned on a fish can take line with ease. When the baitrunner is disengaged (by pressing lever back down) the reel goes into 'normal' mode and the line tension is then determined by the reels primary drag setting.

Sea Angler reviews a very nice looking Shimano baitrunner this month. Might be tempted.

Fished since 2003, the rest of my life I just wasted.
