Braid Or Mono

hi folks.is braid ok for pike fishing,i mean does it loop or tangle a lot with fixed spool reels,i have used it on sea fishing but with a multiplier,thanks

looping, tangleing and wind knots are definate problems with traditional (as opposed to fused) braids, particularly if you're casting light baits or lures. It really helps if you don't fill the spool quite as much as you would if you were fishing with mono because the slight increase in drag as it's comming off the reel helps to keep everything straight. It's also less of a problem with the newer densly woven braids than it was with the older loose flat profile stuff - especially if you use the heavier BS versions.

I too used to have problems with braid and fixed spool reels in the early days. I can't remember the last time though I had anything than an easily corrected wind knot. Either my technique or, more likely, the braids have improved.

I have used braided mainlines for Pike on both fixed spool and multipliers for many years now.I would agree with Steves comments that these days I get very few tangles as he says either we have got used to using it or it has improved! Different types of braid ie profiles,tightness of weave etc etc do tend to behave better on different reels than others though.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
