Signal Cable ?

Cranfield

Recommended Posts

My Daughter lives in Dublin and has a dial-up PC, running XP Home.

When she boots up, she gets the message "signal cable is not connected", then after about 10 minutes, the PC goes into "power save" mode.

Anyone have any ideas, please ?

yes her monitor cable isnt connected correctly ,its the monitor telling you not the pc ,check the monitor cable is pushed in on the pc.

if she doesent see the bios text (on bootup) then its the cable ,if she sees nothing but the "signal etc) and the cable is secure then the vid card could be faulty ,check also in the plug a pin isnt bent or snapped off (it happens) p.s not all pins will be present but the holes where they would have been are empty.

if she has a cat blame that for loose cables  if not blame her

Thanks chesters, I have just spoken to her on the telephone and it would seem that the cable was loose and in fact may have a few bent pins.

She will get a new monitor tomorrow.

carefully straighten the pins using fine tweezers or for flat ones very slowly lift them with a small screwdriver ,the latter though usually snap but not always but worth a try its cheaper ,if its a flatscreen donate it to me not the dustbin B) i will rewire it :D

Secondhand monitors are giveaway items now, especially in Ireland, where you have to pay to dump your rubbish and you can't put them in the bins.

"Flat screen" , nothing as modern. :)
