If your fishing the canal, maybe worth forgetting the skirt until you have a few paddling skills under your belt, that way if you do take a tumble you can easily get out. Wait for some warmer weather to use the skirt and practice your escape routine with a friend in the water, the first time you roll it can be tricky remembering how to get out.

 

Enjoy your fishing, don't forget you'll need a licence for the canoe.

Strictly speaking you need a license for your vessel from the British Waterways Board. However, we kayak in the local canals and provided you are polite and givea thought to the canal boats I have yet to be asked for one (which is just as well!) So, you only need the BWA license if you get asked for it!!

Spose it's a bit like cycling the tow paths.

 

You need a 'permit' to ride yer bike on the towpath but I've never been asked.

nice one ferret, like starvin says, no worries about attaching everything to your yak at that price.

 

use stainless steel & dont forget the silicone. i use bolts with a dome top that are tightened with a hex key, they dont scratch your legs as you get in & out. i get mine from wentin fastners in yeovil.

 

i have fitted a plastic rod holder between my legs ( oo err mrs ! , is that a 30lb class boat rod between your legs or you just pleased to see me ? ) & am just about to fit a drink bottle holder (bike one from halfords)

 

carefull, this yak stuff is addictive, i only tried it to see what its like, now i've got to go to exeter to get more yaks, just to support my habit.
