Im no expert but you can catch them but i think there similar to tench, the odd one gets caught but not really worth targeting. I think they just lie up in winter and dont really do much, if I where you id stick to the carp in there. Maybe some more experianced catfish anglers have a different view. Josh :)

If I were braving the cold I'd mix up dead maggots, chopped Lobs & Halibut pellets, then put some Dynamite Halibut liquid in the mix and spod it out to the chosen swim. Then put a 24mm Halibut Pellet on the hair and 2/3 lobs on the hook, I wouldn't be to shy with the bait either.

I've had cats to over 90lb in France and the last one I caught in the UK was on a Tiger Nut Pop up, go figure you just never know.

Good Luck

I think everyone who has responded here is correct. Catfish do feed in winter. Just not often and not for very long. The fish that scoop posted is beautiful and even more impressive for being a cold water catch.

I can only tell you what I do and that is to target other fish during the late fall & winter and only start back on catfishing when the trees come in bloom in spring.

Hi all

Well if you go to the Ebro you'll catch all year round... we were there in December and had over 25 cats between 6 of us, losing as many. We managed 9 over the ton, larged 135lb.

It was ***** freezing early on, ground frost, freezing fog and sub zero temps, but once the sun got up we were in T-shirts...

Brilliant week...

regards

Gareth

here are a few photos to whet appectites...
