How do I change the background of a picture from (say) grey to (say) a pastel colour? - or change a coloured pic to black and white - or sepia ?

 

I have Adobe Photoshop but can't find a suitable tool in the menus

Photoshop is powerful stuff but complex and maybe overkill for simple photo modifications. I really like Irfanview with the Plugins for this sort of thing. Free and you can quickly change

 

This snatch_1.jpg

 

into these (and lots more) with just a couple of mouse clicks - on Image then on the name of the effect you want.
