When I was a boy me mam left home

I was 5 years old and left to roam

me daddy was a thief, never in the house

lived in the town, brought up on scouse.

I can tell you from the last two lines that it ISN'T Liverpool Lullaby (OMG!!!!!!!! I've just associated this forum with Cilla Black - apologies all round!), but I haven't a clue!

Johnny Cash - Vietnam Talkin' Blues

I heard it at my neighbour's last night. Total coincidence. It won't ever be a favourite song, though.

What about:

"My young love said to me, "My mother won't mind

And my father won't slight you for your lack of kind"

And she stepped away from me and this she did say:

It will not be long, love, till our wedding day" "

For those of you who know me... this is Bernadette's party piece.

"As she moved through the Fair"

Sung by just about everyone how about Angie from the Gundulfs, or The Chieftans.

PS Can I do one?

Can we have a translation, please Tony?

I've always wondered what the hell the song meant!

I could always retaliate with a verse of either Latin or Finnish! - Yes, I've sung in both languages. :wallbash: Instead, see how many people have long memories!

There's a famous seaside place called Blackpool

That's noted for fresh air and fun

And Mr. and Mrs. Ramsbottom

Went there with young Albert, their son.

A fine little lad were young Albert,

All dressed in his best, quite a swell.

He'd a stick with an 'orse's 'ead 'andle;

The finest that Woolworth's could sell.

They didn't think much to the ocean,

The waves they were piddlin' and small.

There were no wrecks and nobody drownded,

'Fact, nothin' to laugh at at all!
