Soft, Stiff or Combi

Not 100% sure Josh but the stuff Ive got can be put on quite thick to not only hold the strands together but make it quite stiff.In water the stuff disolves and the strands sepperate.I have used PVA glue to "waterproof/seal" wood so even though it is water based maybe once dry it wont dissolve again in water?

Yes it was a liquid.It was intended to be used with the origonal multistrand to stop it tangling on casting.Cant remember what its called,dont know if its still avaiable but Ive got a trade pack up in the attic still if anyones interested.

Oh was it called Superstiff? A water soluble anti tangle treatment. Stiffens multi strands and all loosely braided lines to prevent tangles. Once in the water, the gel will dissolve allowing the hook-link to revert back to its original state.

Right the stuff Ive got is "No Tangle" it is meant for multi strand.However Andrew is right as well! there is/was a product by the name of "Super Stiff" specificly for stiffening braid along with another product called Hawser/Rig-a-Mortis that permenantly stiffened either.All from Kryston.

 

I suppose they became redundent when multistrand failed to really take off and the coated materials like Snakeskin came out?

You can make your own by dissolving some pva tape/string in a little bit of water. I used to use it a lot. Best prepared at home where you can apply successive coats of the stuff to make a really stiff rig which softens after a few mins in the water.

 

Don't think it helped me to catch any fish though
