A friend in Ireland gets loads of birds on his feeders. You can actually walk to within 5 or 6 feet of them before they get nervous. No camo or anything. I must try to get some images this year.

Different story here at home, I haven't seen a small bird on our feeders all winter? In fact even now it's warmed up a bit they are still not around. What's going on??

Yes I can stand almost next to our feeders but when you are in the hide or under camo they are totally unaware you are there and are a little more natural.

Many times I just sit and watch them and dont take any photos.

Even "in the wild" birds will soon get used to you. I have often stood next to a bush and waited for the birds to get used to me - it may take 30 minutes or more so patience is the name of the game - thats exactly how I got the whitethroat shots in my gallery.

Are you sure you don't have a sparrowhawk, kestrel, owl patrolling your garden Colin??

We had a sparrowhawk land on our fence one day and it took several hours for the birds to re-appear.-
