Plaice report

Neil

Recommended Posts

Spent a few hours today looking back at the hills in the Lake District. On our first Plaice outing of the

year I managed 14 Plaice and one whopping Dab. Had a few double shots and a few nicer fish, knocking on the two pound mark. :yeah:

Is Sellafield nearby? Can you eat plaice caught from those parts?

Sellafield is a wee bit off from where we were today. Yes you can eat them but most of the ones we had today went back, I kept the two biggest, they are still a bit thin after spawning. They will feed up now for a couple of months then they will make good eating.

If you are going for a shot I will PM you exact locations. ;)

Thanks Neil. Your report is encouraging and there must be potential for other places/plaices in that region. Next time I am up there I will take my yak and explore.

I would have to check the conditions first but the Walney Island area near Barrow-In-Furness could be good from the yak.. when I went for a walk along the beach at low tide I could see the mussel beds down there.. should be plaice around there I would have thought. There also seems to be a number of wrecks in the area. If I did a bit of digging I could find out if there are any close inshore which can be fished safely.
