Hi all,

the elastic rating from preston are following

N° 1 = 0.58mm

N° 2 = 0.67mm

N° 3 = 0.75mm

N° 4 = 0.85mm

N° 5 = 0.91mm

N° 6 = 1.06mm

N° 8 = 1.27mm

My question....

Is an elastic from another firm the same ratings?

I know that the colours are not the same, but are the ratings the same?

thanx jayson

The elastic ratings are usually similar in terms of elasticity in the lower sises IE 8 and below although diameter will vary dependent on the type of elastic. Above 8 and there tends to be more overlap one companies ten being anothers 12. My advice is to find one or two makes of elastic stick to them and their coding. Personaly I use the Maver latex and below and preston above 8.

Strikes me it is much like line. It would be far better if we could trust what it says on the label!

Buy what you know and stick with it is my motto.

I've tried various elastics, and have gone back to Vespe and Middy solids.

I know that the pink is 10-12 Middy Hi-Viz, or 12 Vespe and both seem the same to me, so I'm happy to use either. I call them both number 12 and know exactly how hard I can pull with them. They account for 90% of my carping needs and I fish with full confidence I can land almost anything on them.
