I just use the commercial traces that I use for spinning or plugging.

@ Jim, I haven't to date lost a Pike biting thro' hard-mono. As mentioned above I am very particular to check the shock tippet after releasing the pike. If it shows any sign of wear, I change it. My experience has shown that jack-pike cause more damage to the tippet than larger ones.

The set up I use for Pike fishing is:

Tim Rajeff - ECHO 9'0" #8

~18g floating head

~1,50m of 0,45 leader with a shock tippet (~30cm) out of hard-mon. I use RIO 0,32" (~0,80mm) 45lb Hard Mono.

The flies I use are approx 12-15cm long and tied out of flashabou on barbless hooks (Ad-Swier 4/0 or Gamakatsu 2/0 (nip the barbs down on those)).

I personally have caught Pike up to a tad over 10Kg on this set up, however many of my Pike-Hunting friends have taken Pike of up to 15Kg using similar set ups.

Found the name of that knot I refered to for wire -- it's the Loop Knot.

This one...?

Looks like a really nice knot, if I knew I'd be fishing with just the one fly all day I'd try it, but I like the idea of a clip to make changing flies easier. Have some new-style clips coming in post(thanks Chris) so will let you know how they look.

Also I think I still like the sound of wire as from your posts above sounds like you may be having to change the mono several times a day if you're getting good sport?

Not that one (Keh Knot is another name for it) -- the one I'm refering to is simply two overhand knots. Here's a crude drawing of it.

Yes, I do have to change mono leaders if the fish hs roughed it up but it only takes a minute.
