shock leaders

my multiplier has 20lb mono mainline,what strength shock leader should i be using for 4-6oz castings leads,and whats the best way to attach shock leaders to mainline and to hook length?,told you all i was a novice

Hi,

 

The general rule is 10lb for every ounce of lead so 6 ounce equals 60 pound. In my opinion a general leader knot will do but for me a superior knot is the bimini twist. Looks a mess but is strong as you know what.

After 10 thousand cookies the second site explains the bimini twist. Probably not the best knot for a beginner but I wish I had started with it earlier.

I use a much lighter main line with a tapered 60lb shock leader using the bimini twist for attatching leader.

I use the double albright for mono leaders, and double uni knot for braid to mono.

 

And always fish with a leader when beachcasting- like Ken I use a tapered leader as I use a level wind.
