What's the theory behind the hair rig?

...and will it make caching tench any easier?

it was designed using real hair, and the idea was that the bait was sucked down the throat and making the hook harder to eject,

and enabling you to use heavier lines for your terminal tackle.

read this, and do a google and find out more as there are tons of different ideas on the hair.

abd yes you can use it on any species of fish not only carp.

No not quite right. The origonal hair was used to stop the carp feeling the hook length across its lips.

Considering that its use came in after the use of boillies started to become common many have sugested that the origonal theory was wrong and all it really does is improve hooking as the hook is never masked.

Either way its very effective for several species.

Interestingly the first use of a "hair rig" was for ataching a live bait to a large hook for saltwater game fish. The line going through the livebait causing less damage than the thick large hook.

When Lenny Middleton (who passed away fairly recently) and Kev ________s first "developed" the hair they did indeed use a human hair. This was only because they didnt have any light line at that moment and they never actually used it to fish with.

It was the norm to use light mono (1.5-2lb) as the hair for all baits but this only lasted a few years and finally died totally with the introduction of the "knotless knot".

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
