If the commercial fishermen are having this struggle then what chance have we amateurs got? Otters are now taking large carp and pike from across the Broads area. Fish stocks are under attack from seabirds looking for alternative and easy feed. Yet the poor old commercial fishermen have to sit back and watch the conservation lobby, namely Natural England/English Nature, destroy their livelyhood. So what chance have we mere anglers got? It isn't our livelyhood, just a hobby. If it has feathers it gets protection, if it has scales it does not.

I agree Peter, the RSPB are so big and powerful now, that they can do almost anything they like.

It's interesting to note that they are 'seeded' mussel beds, and that the ducks are attracted to the artificially created numbers of shell fish. A lot like overstocked ponds attracting a lot of fish eating birds to an easy meal. Remember the film "Field of Dreams"? "Build it and they will come". So maybe anglers themselves are partially to blame for some of anglings problems.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John
