Plenty of lochs in Scotland that have salt water in them.

Loch Long, Loch Fyne, the Gairloch, Loch Broom, Loch Striven and many, many more.

 

Loch Fyne is the longest sea loch. The settlement at the top of it (Clachan) is about 44 miles from the mouth, as the skate swims.

I think it was the shops in Hawthorn Street, Parkhall. If I mind right there's a carry oot place among them so probably gas explosion.
