it did come out to replace the older 506's it has a switchable anti-reverse and a 1.25/1 oscillation ratio (same with the 507mk2 and 704's) as compared to older 500 series which had a 1:1 ratio (better but slower retrieve) the higher ratio improved the retrieval rate plus the shallow spool.
