Suitable Waterproof Fishfinder for Kayak ..

Hi all ..... any ideas on a suitable waterproof fishfinder under £100 for my Prowler ... been looking at the Garmin range and they seem pretty good ..

I have a Garmin 80 new model is now the 90, I've had my kayak upside down in the water and it stills works it is very basic fish finder, but it does the job for me. If you get one put some silicon grease on the plug help to stop corrosion. Garmin as a company are very good with after sales service and will do a replacement if it goes wrong free of charge most of the time

Potentially very cheap, bit of a risk it if it goes wrong. My attitude to this type of kit is, it's basic so less to go wrong and the company would very quickly go out of business if they were generally unreliable.

 

Mine detects a lot of fish, so either I'm crap fisherman or it's not telling the truth (can switch the fish detect option off) otherwise it's fine.

 

Edit: bought through the link above, came from the US in 5 days despite what appears to be a UK seller

I have bought a few different lures from this seller and yes it does come from the states, but to be honest as long as I dont have to pay the import duty I'm happy.

It's not got an IP rating but its been upside on the Yak in the surf and gets put under the tap after every trip. Not had it long but there are others that have had them.

I use a cuda 128, I've had waves come over it , tipped it, rained on, and stuck under the tap afterwards, works fine on what is only a basic sounder, I generally only use it to check depth or bottom features.

Anyone know if the 128 or similar Garmin units come as portable (batts on the unit)? I need to remove the unit when not on the water and would prefer not having a battery inside the hull. cheers

You could mount the battery within a box in the hull, which is how mine is done. The main reason for doing this is as you mention and I like to remove the battery before car topping.
