10-11 foot 1/2 -3/4lbs test-curve rod?

I am looking for a new rod, suitable for light legering and free lining for chub/ide.

I usually fish a small river where required casting lenghts are at a maximum of around 20 feet...But usually i fish 1 to 3 rod lenghts from the shore.

The fish averages between 2-4 pounds.A full, through action would be nice,as i sometimes really have to hold onto the rod to prevent the fish from snagging.

Price range:70 to 140 pounds.

Quality Coarse(bait)fishing rods are strictly mailorder here in Norway,so its hard for me to get my hands around a suitable rod.

Wish i could walk into a good tackle shop full of quality coarse fishing equipment, but i can`t! :wallbash: Its all fly and spinfishing over here...

Any advice appreciated :)

Hi Mr Viking! I do a lot of this kind of fishing - small stream chubbing where you need a through action rod which is long enough to poke over marginal reeds etc but not too long to get caught up in trees, and strong enough to stop a fish reaching terrible snags but not stiff so you don't snap off all the time! I use a Fox Specialist Barbel 11ft 1 1/2lb tc, which was about £100. I love it and wouldn't swap it for anything - it's perfect for the style of fishing you describe and has the hidden power to also be used for light carping, tenching, perch fishing, feeder fishing, etc. Even barbel fishing  It has a standard tip and also a built in quiver tip. It also has a keeper ring (like a fly rod) which is very useful when roving about. It also looks good - it's a light, slim, dark green carbon blank with a full cork handle.

No doubnt everyone has their favourites but this is the only one I can recommend personally.

http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=72567 Can ALWAYS recommend one of these!! In fact ANYTHING from this stable. For me it is horses for courses, FOX make terminal tackle and rods. Greys make RODS and dabble with tackle.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

A medium spinning rod is a good idea. The black nighthawk series from fenwick are lightweight rods with a really nice deep action.Has anyone seen blanks of these for sale?

Greys prodigy barbel 1.5 lbs are great rods,no doubt. But a bit too heavy for my use :)

Thanks for the advice :)

If you are looking to build your own rod, take a look at http://shop.mudhole.com/
