hiya all

this is the report

i (carphead07 freinD) had 2 tench were as he blanked but he lost 1 right at the very start and he mised 1

my first tench came in very easy and it was 2 lb but my second tench came on carpheads tackle because the fish pulled his rod in the water and he couldnt get it soo i stripped off to my boxer shorts and t shirt to get in the lake which is surprisingly warm and i had to walk through 1 foot deep silt 2 get the rod he wouldnt come in the water to play the fish and by the time i had got the fish to the bank it was knackered so h netted it but good thing was it was my pb tench 5lb 4oz it beat my previous record by 2 oz and i got a photo of me holding the fish in the lake  so not a bad day all in all

Hi

I think the reason that you blanked is not your presentation ie rig set up, but the bait you used. I used to have the same problem where i would use a different hook bait compared to my groundbait.

What I found worked well was to match my hookbait to my ground bait, ie if you are fishing boilies on the hook use them as your freebies and vice versa if you use pellets. That way the carp are not wary about taking your hook bait as its the same as the freebies you have provided.

Hi

Heres what i do when i am faced with a new water or am unsure as to what the carp like.

I would use an inline lead with a hair rig and a pva bag, this way you get great presentation of ur hook bait and a good concentration of ground bait.

Interms of hook bait i would favour things like naturals ie, sweetcorn, maize all carp love these. You can get the plastic sweet corn which works really well. I normally use a piece of maize and a rubber sweatcorn on a hair rig.

The way i would set it up is use two rods one i would use naturals as i have said above and on the other i would use straight boilies or pellets. The only way to find out which boilies work is to trail and error, if one type do not work try another. I use spicy shrimp but thats my personal choice.

Interms of size i always use 15mm this time of year and on you can use what ever you think fit, also ask other anglers what they are using, they may tell you.

How to set this up??

Get ur pva bag, a large one put your hook bait in the bottom then add your chosen ground bait, be it pellet/boilies/naturals about half way up the pva bag, then add your lead and top the bag up. Twist the pva bag around to seal moistenthe end tidy up and cast away. Below is link that gives you a step by step guide.

Now this is only what i would do, i general use the method as it suits all types of lake bottoms.

Have a read and see what you think

Cheers
