torjans, spyware and viruses

Recommended Posts

Sorry meant Trojans.

I've picked up an IT illness of somesort and keep getting a popup for a company purporting to sell me software to clear up dozens of pages of porn I have on my PC at home.

This came as something of a surprise to my wife and I as, frankly, I haven't got enough time to even dream of going to such sights.

I've upgraded my MacAfee software and much of the constant barrage of crap has dissappeared but we still get some. Has anyone any tips for getting rid of it?

no please not adaware, its a load of toss imo. the newest most successful one at the moment has to be spysweeper, when your anti virus software lets you down and cant clear up the problem its a bad day and you must move on.

to date my best 2 pieces of essential software is:

nod32

spysweeper

its been about 4 months and not a single virus, spyware, malware, trojan, worm or anything and im a big porn surfer so thats saying somthing

bit of honesty there andy!! hope you have time to go fishing :clap2:

I'll run anything to get these shifted, but once cleaned out, what do you recommend. Macafee and Norton were raved about not so long ago, have things moved on further than I remember??

i would agree with that but from what ive seen it cant stop even some of the smaller viruses it once got me infected with about 10 small malware trojans, nod32 put an end to it and ive never had a virus since.

norton, mcafee, and others alike are not worth a penny, they over program it with useless crap like popup blockers, spyware blockers, too much eye candy and buttons than you can cope with.

nod32 simply sits in the background and updates itsself about 2 times a day and doesnt pester the crap out of you for surveys and extras and junk you dont care about. just does its job simply and efficiantly and when a virus is detected (before the virus is even fully downloaded) and kills it there and then, if not it will quarantine it and you wont hear from it again,

avg is a little like this but i dont think its as formidable as nod32

see i think norton and mcafee and all these other large corpirations have to much crap in there av its not simplified enough to concentrate on the one task it is actualy designed for and thats anti virus protection.

Thanks for the tips Andy, but have a look at A-Squared and Advanced Windowscare v2 both are free and both work very well, Windowscare has many handy tools.

I've got to say, after reading threads like this, I'm just glad I'm a Mac user...

macs are next on the hit list.

they aint that secure, there are viruses for it, its just no body cares enough about macs for it to be a big thing like with windows. give it time it will happen. im constantly logging onto my colleges mac through my windows one and printing stuff and making it do funny stuff, he still doesnt know its me :D
