  1. Not perch but when there’s a lot of colour in t river mouth I always find the cod in the Tyne more likely to take worms
  2. Hi all. I’m looking at buying a caravan here - has anyone fished it. It’s the black hole on google maps two miles from the coast and 4 miles south of silloth.
  3. What real are you pairing it with? For the trotting you have to try a pin and that will marry well with an Avon.
  4. Age is a terrible thing. I used to think nothing of walking 5 or 6 miles to fish a chubby spot. Now drive to a safe place because I dont think I could. Had some lovely experiences in leamingron spa up stream from the sport centre rolling a lob worm under bushes on a stream. Big roach and perch and the odd chub. Never a barbel. Sounds great.
  5. Interesting season this year. Lots of make but also herring off the pier and in the river Tyne. Unbelievable.
  6. I had a lot of cod this summer off Amble, decent sized fish as well but still not seen any of the 30lbers we used to see landed at Whitby when I was a child. There have been a lot of herring this year off the tyne which I've never seen in numbers before and they should be good food fish for the cod.
  7. I've caught a lot of fish with hooks in them and I#'ve caught lines with hooks attached which have clearly been in the water some time. deep hooking usually equals dead fish.
  8. I've got the browning revolver spinning like a dream, the purist is the making the tiniest hum, both spinning happily next to me at my desk. Which to use which to use???? a bag of maggots, a small bag of bits and some bread mash, a few big lob works and i'll be set. got a new baby due this summer so going to have to make the most of the next couple of weeks. tight lines all
  9. took your advice leon and went fishing yesterday. hands were blue but fish were biting, wierd weather,
  10. sorry steve, i'm one of those who looked but i'm based in the north east so can't help but if you're up here give me a shout, there are plenty of rock marks near the road with parking nearbye. No gurnard but plenty of whiting and cod at the moment but it's a long drive. if trying somewhere new i often scope around the rocks via google maps to find parking, possible features etc. sorry can't be of more help.
  11. There have been some flocks of gulls hitting sanderling or similar. May well be the returning thousands causing them to ball. Any other signs up the east coast?
  12. Thought the trout season was over. Have they been scrapped now?
  13. Hi I have a holiday home that I rent out (wont put a link here but google the old church melkridge if you do want to know more). I need to rent it out out of the main season and the area i'm in is popular for shooting and salmon fishing (we're next to the south tyne). Anyone any ideas of places to target. We need to get it booked out most of the year round. Out of season it's £600 but sleeps up to 10 and is a good 4* quality. What do you think, Elton what do you think? cheers. elton if this is spam just take out the info about the google etc, i was just trying to give details without spamming.
  14. Alan roe is the man to ask if hestill posts much on here ( sorry been off for a while). Do a search for his post or get a moderator to pm him. It's his home turf.
  15. Never fished there but have fished on the south coast. worms are available at the shops and can do well. big fish do hang out near the coast and their are a number of european barracuda so plugs etc can work. Most locals float fish using bread pastes, live bait or fish/worm pieces. tight lines
  16. newt, was that a sulk I saw there!!!! re the question, i tend to stick to naturals or representations that the fish expect to find. at this time of year caddis are starting to move about so try them if your water has them, if the river has flooded the fish expect to see worms so do use them when it's fining down (and lots of other times as well, they will work if you stay confident that they will). blood worm is an excellent natural and if you can be bothered to fish it properly can be amazingly succesful when nothing else works. i often use bluebottles on the top fished a few feet down from a blob of float dough if the fish are active on the top and I don't have my fly rod. just look what's around and have a go. most things can work given patience and a little thought.
  17. it's taken me a bit of time to see this, sorry. day tickets for haltwhistle are from Mags NEWSAGENT IN HALTWHISTLE, FOR ALTON I THINK THEY'RE AVAILABLE AT ALSTON POST OFFICE.
  18. thanks for the responses. any clue as to what afaw is? i'll get in touch with sea reels, thanks
  19. Hi all, for those who don't know me, I've got a new baby and have little time to get on here at the moment but have been active in the past. I have a newsagents in south shields, a town on the south side of the mouth of the river tyne. We are quite near the pier and do an OK trade in weights, line, mackeral feathers, some rigs and hooks. One of the local tackle shops in newcastle supplies me with stock at a helpful discount, i wonder, however, with winter coming, whether anyone can suggest anything else should stock (mainly end tackle, we don't really have the facilities to sell bait). I look forward to any comments. thanks phil
  20. life moves on, since starting anglers net I've been married, moved house 3 times, adopted my first dog, had my first child (poppy was born 7 weeks ago), moved from being a trainee solicitor to being a partner in a law firm, lost my dad, lost good friends, made dozens of new friends, become secretary of a fishing club, caught my first sea trout, salmon and pike, taken up fly fishing and many many things...............and through all of them Anglers net has been a constant companion. There have been times when I've been quiet on here, times when I've been active, but i've always been able to come on here, cheer up, sometimes get upset when friends are having problems but it's been here and long may that continue...cheers to everyone involved but particularly to Elton, the Mods and to Alan's spirit, he helped make this place special for me too.
  21. I didn't even realise that there were two varieties. Why shouldn't we fish for them if it's not illegal? It's a personal thing, there's nothing you can do about an unintended capture, but many anglers are not great and handling fish, in fact, the word I would use is crap, plus I assume that there is no research into their likely chance of survival after capture. With such a rare species (though I appreciate that their numbers can be great in some rivers) i wouldn't target them unless I was confident that killing (which I would assume could happen), wouldn't have an effect on numbers and secondly, that my catching them wouldn't encourage others to do the same, as, once they become a target for a number of anglers, the pressure could do irreparable harm to the stocks.
  22. it has a better run of sea trout than the Tyne, the deep pool by the new bridge can be good. There is a reasonable run of salmon too, again I've had success down stream of the millenium bridge. tight lines
  23. that was a fun read mate, the GT's looked great, and I've fancied having a go at the queenies as well when I'#ve seen them on the box. did any sharks turn up for a nosy? it is bizarre, halfway round the world and we recognise many of the fish mainly due to the bearded burblers program.
