My waterproof fishfinder

Recommended Posts

My fishfinder is supposed to be waterproof. It is sold as waterproof. I've not had it very long and haven't immersed it but today it became almost useless as there was so much condensation on the screen while I was out fishing I could barely see the information on it. Does everyone suffer from this? What can I do to help prevent this? I'm a bit annoyed to be honest.

Wetter than an otter's pocket.

I think condensation on the screen is quite common on fishfinders. I sent my Raymarine back to the manufacturers who applied an anti-condensation mod to it (whatever that is) so it must be an known issue.

Mine is totally busted. Making screaming nioses and coroded really bad. It's only 2 months old.

1 on the lure is worth 2 from the bait.

but you do paddle a portable swimming pool (Dorado) GB

Dont you swear at me Mr H. I paddle amongst other thing a Pelican which is clearly more refined and gentlemanly than a Dorado :D:P

My Garmin FF has been right under the water, I was thinking to worse, but no it was OK

Just a thought were are you storing your FF when not in use, I keep mine indoors in a warm dry place

I must go down to the sea again

To the lonely sea and sky

I left my shoes and socks there

I wonder if they're dry?

Screen condensation is a common fault but should clear during use, OK Really replied to a thread on here or AnglersAfloat explaining the causes of the condensation and what can be done to reduce it.

Had a similar problem on my first old units, however the new Humminbird's I'm using with the smaller displays haven't shown any signs as yet.

Yeah, Mark it will clear with use. Mine used to do it a lot when I first had it. As you say, made it unreadable for a couple of hours on the water before it cleared (having the light on helped). So, I sent it back to the States to be exchanged and was without a FF for 6 weeks. When I got it back, it did exactly the same <_< Can't remember the last time I had the problem, now.
