A number of years ago I was approached by a Cornishman (nothing against them) on my local river, he was asking about the elver population.

He said he was touring Scottish rivers to find out if he could get people to supply him elvers, he said he would pay £32 a kilo (if I remember rightly). I thought it was a lot to give then, they don't stand a chance with the prices they are now.

He didn't get any from here as they are so few now you rarely see them. I have seen a smaller river with so many it looked like black weed, I didn't tell him about that either.
