The Joy of the Centrepin

Surely with a decent carp or tench it must take ages to take back line?

Only if you let them have loads of line in the first place, but I leave that sort of game to those who fish with a lightly set clutch.

With a pin you will probably not be fishing at any great distance, in these circumstances it's relatively easy to not let a fish get up any speed and go steaming off into the distance.

You have to remember that you have to make them work for every inch of line, this is rarely what happens when fishing with a fixed spool/baitrunner/clutch. Most anglers set clutches too lightly and fish are able to run prodigious distances with very little effort, baitrunners are even worse.
