not at all not as far as my k2s are concerned. i would have no probs with a 9yr old casting one of mine, they dont realy need to be cast its more a case of a slow steady motion rather than a hard wack .all the longer rods i own and have cast have this in common just gentle wind through the cast and the bait will still go too far some times.

I dont understand the comments about daiwa vs penn... abus I can understand cause they are not even really designed for sea fishing, the gears are small, the drags plates are too small also and never smooth enough. But the penn 525 mag I have has never given me any problems either casting or fishing, but the daiwas I have had (7ht, sl30sh) have becamse rough, stiff and noisy after not very long. I wouldnt buy a 7ht again, the useless handle is annoying, and the gearbox of the sloshes makes up the rod casting a nightmare. The power of the 525mag and ease of casting is a joy. I know a lot of people who have problems with 525's casting because they FILL THEM RIGHT UP!!! Got to leave off a bit of line to tame the initial surge of the cast. Im looking for another one as a spare - anyone got one for sale??? Im also looking for a 535 to replace my 7000syncro because it is far too slow. Bits falling off the 525mag? What bits exactly? Is it because they were loose before you started fishing?

Early 525's did have a minor problem with the spool release lever. The little retainer screw gradually loosened off after time, until eventually, the lot came off. A similar problem occured with early SLOSH's.

The problem has been addressed with later models and in my view the 525mag has got to be the best reel in terms of both castability and raw power.

I just hope with the introduction of "new" models (supermag, superdupermag, supersuperdupermag etc) that Penn dont try to fix what aint broken.
