Matters Arising

Bradford Club

Gwyn Davies asked regarding the outcome of the Bradford clubs complaint. John Amery stated that he had contacted both Richard Ferre and David Rowe regarding this matter and that both had contacted the Bradford club to sort out the problems. Richard Ferre replied to the Bradford club within a week of being informed regarding the complaint, hopefully this matter is resolved and the Bradford club will rejoin the division.

Guernsey Qualifiers

Gwyn Davies asked about the Guernsey qualifiers regarding if the division would be responsible for organising the competitions. George Smith replied that now the division is up and running again the qualifiers would be run through the division. Further discussions and meetings to take place regarding the qualifiers.

John Amery stated that he had contacted David Rowe regarding sending out the Minutes with a letter to all paid up members and past members regarding the reforming of the Yorkshire division. David Rowe stated that he could go back to 2002 regarding past and present members and would do a mail shot to all.

Chairman’s report

John Amery stated that the division was now up and running with the new committee still finding its feet.

Treasurer’s Report

John Amery read out the report on behalf of his wife Jean stating that £565.42 was in the bank account. He also stated that with the difficulty of changing the names on the account he had asked for it to be closed and the funds forward to him where he would open a new account with the named persons it being John Amery, Jean Amery and Gwyn Davies.

Objectives

Gwyn Davies explained what his thoughts were where the division should go regarding the political, conservation aspects and fund raising, also that due to the resignations of Graham Collins (immediately) and Nigel Procter (from November) from the NESFC, we would have no representative on this committee. Stuart McPherson stated that he had applied in January for a position on this committee and was still awaiting confirmation. Phil Arnott also stated that his name had been put forward for membership of this committee. John Amery stated that he will contact Richard Ferre regarding sending a letter to the NESFC with reference to representation of Recreational Sea Angling on the NESFC committee also to give support to both members in their quest to join this committee.

Glenn Kilpatrick suggested the letter to be sent to NESFC should contain record of our discontent with regards to recent bye law proposals from NESFC (those being the shellfish permit byelaw and the proposed Bass bag limit byelaw).

Gwyn Davies to write introducing the division to the NESFC and to ask about resurrecting the meetings between each other.

Fund Raising/Competitions

Gwyn Davies brought up fund raising as we need to generate funds so that we can finance our concerns regarding the political/conservation aspects of recreational angling and one way was to hold competitions. Peter Bayes was concerned regarding holding competitions as the calendar was already full. William Colling was concerned also as the boat scene was full of competitions. Phil Naylor said that the only way to raise funds was by holding competitions. Further discussions to be held at next meeting.

Peter Bayes asked if it was possible to become an associate member for a fee of £5 which would go to finance the political/conservation side of the NFSA as he was concerned regarding the membership fee being used to finance competitions. John Amery stated that none of the money raised by membership fees is used to finance competitions, all are self financed. George Smith an England International confirmed this was the case

Trophies

Phil Naylor brought in a shield and four cups. Three of these cups are brand new and were bought by the previous committee as the trophies for the shore angling competitions but he said that as the cups had never been engraved they could be used as boat or shore trophies.

Website

Stuart McPherson asked about having a website for the division, left for further discussions.

Correspondence

Gwyn Davies reported that he had received a copy of an email from Nigel Proctor stating his wish to resign from the positions of Standing committee member and Conservation member for the Yorkshire division NFSA. He will be missed for his experience and knowledge of sea angling and we wish him well for the future.

John Amery asked if any one was prepared to take over the Standing committee position. Stuart McPherson said that he would take on this position, Gwyn Davies agreed to stand as reserve Standing committee member, all agreed to this.

John Amery said that as Phil Arnott has a vast knowledge of conservation matters he would be best placed to take over as the conservation member. He agreed to this position which was a unanimous decision

A.O.B.

Phil Arnott reported that there is another meeting of the Flamborough liaison group to be held on the 29th September 2007

Rob Neale stated that the NFSA should push the insurance scheme more as a method of gaining members. John Amery said that the head office of the NFSA was looking into a possibility of doing this.

John Amery read out a release from head office regarding the NFSA membership fees and to the possibility of the NFSA winding up its affairs in 2008. This is due to Sport England cutting direct funding to the NFSA, instead Sport England wants a new body, the Angling Development board (ADB) to serve all disciplines of angling, the NFSA provided three possibilities:-

1. Leave things as they are and wind up the affairs in an orderly manner in 2008.

2. Increase individual membership to £21 and club membership to £2 to continue as we are at the present time.

3. Increase membership to £26, club membership to £3 which would make the NFSA financially strong and an independent organisation.

.

Email Addresses

If possible the sending of all correspondence by email is easier and more cost effective, so could all members provide an email address where possible.

Date and Venue of next meeting

A new venue was offered for us to hold meetings the Pontefract Miners Welfare Club, John Amery to write and thank them for their offer which we will hopefully take up sometime, but as the general consensus was to carry on using the Scarborough Anglers Social Club until we can get enough response from members to hold meetings elsewhere.

The next meeting takes place on the 19th November 2007 stating at 7.30pm

Care to speculate exactly where Ponte Miners Welfare Club is Glen? Halfpenny Lane by any chance? The lads and myself would be very interested in making "one" if possible.
