Double Sided Flounders

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I received an e-mail via our club website the other day and wondered if any of you had any experience to share on the following:-

"I am a Marine Biology Student researching flounder at Newcastle University.

Over the last few years there have been reported catches of double sided

flounder in the North East , with the flounder having identical pigment on

both sides. I am looking into the incidences of these catches and was

wondering if there have been any recorded sitings on the south coast."

Thanks, Chris

hello

I live in jersey c.i. so don't know if your study will travel this far

I used to fish for flatties a lot, and pioneered flounder fishing here in jersey, twenty years ago now,(phew that long).

any way what your asking, a one in fifteen flounder used to come up double sided, and one in four used to be other faced.

I had a none pigment one once, white both sides, but that was after a lot of flounders.

anyway flat fishing is still my best sport, bass are great yeah but you can't beat a flattie session.

A few taken in Chichester Harbour and Langstone Harbour ......

but numbers of flounders have dramatically dropped compared to 12 years ago, so a double- sider is a bit of a rarity these days.
