Anchoring

Hello , What is the idea of the anchor pulley system ? Being a boat angler , whenever we have anchored it has been from the bow so the boat swings and faces into the tide. I thought this would be the same for a kayak. I haqve searched the previous threads but cannot find the answer, any reasons ? Thanks Martin.

I think the reason is so that you can raise and lower the anchor easily from the centre of the yak, but when you have dropped anchor you can set it to either the front or rear of the yak without having to clamber about and risk tipping.

I have made an anchor trolley but not used it yet, I have made a short one so i will ony anchor to the rear.

if you anchor conventional style ie from the bow you would have to fish facing backwards also avoids having to climb to front or back to retrive anchor

surly this is an advantage if you uptide, as you are facing the right direction to cast?

If you uptide then this can be an advantage. Don't think many of us do uptide though - the kayak is a stealthy tool any scare zone around the kayak is small.

For uptide it is far easier to cast back over your shoulder than it is to cast forward, try it some day with a plain lead first. It's also better to fish when anchored from the rear as when the tide is running the fish will more often than not run downtide.

We uptide most of the time off the Essex coast , and its far easier to cast over your shoulder than bring a fish in over your shoulder. Anyway you dont always have to fire the lead directly behind you, a lot depends on the tide run.

because of the strong tides off of the north devon coast we have no option but to uptibe unless you are using a 1lb weight, and they don't always hold bottom!

I do both, its nice to give the bum a change of position, now and then.
