Sounds like it could be a Hardy "Longbow"

I've got a couple of them that I still use... real proper rods :)

Sounds like it could be a Hardy Tourney.

I was told they were designed by Leslie Moncrief.

Has it got the first (top) ring very close to the tip ring with the next ring about twice this distance from the first?

If it is a Tourney, he's got one hell of a rod. You can realy feel the tip action working. There wasn't much to compare with it when it was first sold. A mate of mine might still have one!

You may be right!

The Tourney I am thinking about was first available c1968 I think. The longbow may have been a cheaper version, on the same blank, a little later, hence the reel fittings.

Sounds like it may be a 'Hardy Victor'. The name is vaguely familiar. For some reason I've suddenly got it in my head that a Hardy Longbow was a reverse taper rod. Not sure why. The Tourney was a fast/steep taper rod with an alloy butt section.

Are we getting anywhere?

Not a clue on price!

There must be collectors of Hardy tackle reading this, I'm sure.

Jim, Yes, the Longbow is reverse taper - designed for the "layback" style of casting. I use mine with my faithful old Penn Squidder. I filed the plastic "airbrake" fins off the spools forty years ago to get more distance.

Still got my 'baby' squidder somewhere (the narrow one).

If you wanted a spool without the fins, you should have got the Surfmaster 100!

With the more gentle acceloration of the reverse taper action, over-runs are not such a problem.

The Hardy Tourney was the British answer to the ABU 484 steep taper and a lot better. Would like to have one now!
