Shimano Baitrunners

The 'RE's are excellent. I use a pair of 6000's for Carp, and a pair 5000's for Barbel.

I would recomend a 5000 which you should be able to pick up for £50 - £55

They will handle line from 8 to 12lb.

Then again you could always go for a 3500, 4500, or 6500 version. The "B" style (latest) is as good as the old ones were if not a little better. Front main drag and a slightly different appearance from the ones you are accustomed to but an excellent reel.

The 3500 is about the size of a Mitchell 300.

Daft question if I may. Would this type of reel be out of place for barbel fishing on the trent where the fish can be over 9lbs on my syndicate stretches? I am hoping to get a nice avon rod next season to try and beat my 8.5lbs PB this year and wondered whether this reel would be equally at home on my carp rod for the lakes as it would be for my trent fishing.

I am also getting a couple of new Baitrunners this Xmas for my Barbeling on the Great Ouse and I asked on the clubs forum for advice from our clubs top barbel specialists who have caught Barbel up to 19lb on our stretches and they all seem to use SHIMANO BAITRUNNER AERO 5000 GTE-B 's. so they must be well trusted reels for Barbel fishing.

I know the newer Baitrunners are supposed to be good as well however as a few of our better club Barbel specialists have said that they are going to replace them with the same (5000 GTE-B's) then I feel they must trust them.
