Thames Cod

I don't usually do catch reports, but, as it's Christmas, I thought I'd post a quick one about my last two trips of 2007.

Last week I went out off of Felixstowe on a friends Warrior. There were plenty of tiddler codling around and you could have caught one a cast, if that's what floats your boat. In fact, my friend was kept very busy doing just that and hardly had time to eat or drink between bites. Being a bit lazy, and not really content to sit out there tiddler bashing, I stuck out a live Pout on one of my rods and fished huge squid baits on a 5/0 pennel on the other. Eventually I was rewarded with a cod of just over 7lb. Happy days.

Yesterday I went out of West Mersea on Chris Mole's boat, Enterprise, with a good friend and fellow forum member. It was a bit lumpy to start with, but we managed to get off a bit to where the average size of the codling is just that bit bigger than last weeks. These were nice plump fish around the 3-4 lb bracket, and everyone on board caught, despite the cold easterly wind that usually kills the fishing. There were one or two better fish amongst the codling, the biggest was about 8-9 lb. I managed these two on big squid baits.

Now, to make sure this thread doesn't get moved from the C&P forum, I suppose I ought to give it a C&P slant. We used to catch cod like this from the beaches around here. And now we don't. :uhuh:

Merry Christmas.

Steve

Ahh yes, before i read your last para i was thinking of asking a mod to move it to the sea fishy forum, as this is now a political motivated post i won't. So the 05 class are still on the ground, wow.

Merry Xmas

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Cod of those sizes are being caught off Chesil Beach this year.

22lb is the biggest I've heard of.

20+ fish per session, seems common from the right spots, when it's fishable!
