It is an absolutely must have if you are feeder/ledger feeding. If you are enjoying your day and the wind gets up and spoils your bite indication, put your sidewinder on, cast your line, and place your rod with the tip under water - bite indication is sensitive and obvious.

If the fish are biting and the wind gets up, you will continue to catch at the same rate you were!

Sipadan, I don't think that that would be neccesary for piking, it would be too sensitive. As it is, if a Carp takes the bait, you hear a distinct snap as the sidewinder hits your rod. I think it was designed with silvers in mind, but has taken off in the general coarse fishing fraternity!

 sorry, it would seem that i'm a twit and not very up-to-date with new tackle. i thought the product in question was a self-locking float!

Polaris do a self locking float for Piking if that's what your after.

I still use a sidewinder mark 1

Great for tight swims where you cant get an angle on a tip rod.

Very sensitive and also great for drop back bites.

Different floats for different folks!
