Which area are you talking about, Toerag?

We now get whelkers, scallopers, crab and lobster pots, clam dredges from inside the harbours to all the way out to the Pullar Buoy.

Whelks have been hit so hard that there are now no hermit crabs anywhere in the E Solent.

All the whelkers tell us the amounts of whelks being taken would not effect the population of hermit crabs.

I beg to differ. Put a whelk/hermit pot out now and you might get a 2 dozen whelks and no hermit crabs.

When they are not dragging for scallops/oysters, the whelk pots are laid all along Southsea seafront; well in range of good casters. That's if you find a spot between the gill and tangle nets!

A whelker off Eastney beach ....
