I'm looking for a good shore spot for Bass near the above. Anyone got any ideas?

I've caught loads of fish from the Quay - all species except bass!! Really want to catch one this time around.

Also, anyone recommend a boat out of the above?

don't know any marks for bass, i spent 2 weeks at pentewan sands caravan site 3 years ago and fished the beach, nothing but dogfish and the odd mackerel.

fished on a boat called "venus" from the harbour, we went to a "wreck" and caught hundereds of whiting, big ones to, up to 4lb, huge whitings compared to scottish ones which average 1/2lb

my son had a whiting chewed up by a conger but never hooked it, i tries a mackerel flapper bait for els and got, you guessed.....dogfish  hope this helps

John Arthur is a legend... I too have been out on Venus. Very good, but was looking for something a bit different... maybe more inshore? Maybe i'm being too picky... I've caught all sorts from the pier - black bream, mullet, plaice, turbot, sea trout - plus hundreds of mackeral/gars/wrasse/pollock... but never a bloody bass! Any hints greatfully accepted... also, I've seen John Dorys down the side of the pier, but never caught them - any methods for them?

I have never fished at Mevagissey but walked the coastal path in the immediate area.

In my view it all looks very 'bassy' and suggest you just 'have a go'. Rocks, sea weed, any area where there is a 'rip'. Just think fish, if you were a bass where would you put yourself to obtain a meal. Ideally early in the morning or late at night ie. sunrise or sunset, but if fishing in reduced light conditions familiarise yourself with the tide state and the area you BEFORE you intend to fish.

Unfortunately because bass are so sought after and many so called 'anglers' like to sell their catch, I doubt if you will get many people volunteering mark information on an open forum.

However in my view the fun and satisfaction comes from finding out for yourself.

Good luck

David

hi dan.

if you want bass around mevagissey carry on along the coast a few miles and take your pick of the beaches -carne/pendower rosevine or portholland. if you go over north coast(slightly better for bass)try watergate mawgan-porth fistral(at night due to surfing in day)all these near newquay.or padstow way trevone harlyn boobies-bay and constantine.

good luck yakmad
