Hard growths in gut cavities

Have any of you found any strange hard brown growths in the internal organ cavity of pollack or ling? In the past 10 months I've had 3 or 4 pollack and ling off wrecks which have had a hard resinous growth inside the gut cavity. The growths are not actually in the gut, but next to it and the other internal organs, and have grown around them.

The one in the picture has damaged edges where one of my cats chewed it(!), originally it was all brown like the middle. They feel like they're made of a hard slightly flexible plastic. All fish caught appeared to be in a perfectly healthy condition. Having spoken to marine biologists it would appear to be something called a 'Granuloma', which is reaction to some irritant, much like mother of pearl is in an oyster. I'd be interested to see how widespread these granulomas are.
