if you have trouble casting light lures for bass,

jellie worms,redgills and plugs,try a surface controller,

What one of them then?!

Dan

I guess that is similar or the same as a casting float used in Denmark and Germany for casting a fly with spinning gear. A search on the Fly Fishing forum will find some interesting threads on the subject. I have never tried it but I am convinced it would work as you can control the depth regardless of the fly or rubber eel. Anyone out there tried it?

The bass lure that's really making a name for its self at the moment is the Dexter Wedge because it can be cast a very long way (over 100 yds) and yet retrieves very slowly. It's knocking the pants off all the other lures in this area. It's particularly deadly for bass although no-one knows why. You can view it and read all about how to catch bass with it by doing the following

Visit http://www.dexterproducts.co.uk

Click Products

Click Lures

Under Dexter Wedge click Expert Advice

You can actually buy them from the website as well and I'm told there's a reduction if you say you contacted them via their website although I don't know by how much.

Ok Guys, whats your favourite and most sucessful bass fishing lure for inshore waters? Mine's a 28gm Toby but I want to try some others with confidence this year!

Dan

If you go to Harris Angling, there's a button on the top right that goes straight to a page devoted to Bass lures. And if you're quick the half price offer of the day is actually one of the ones they have listed on this page (Rebel Windcheater). I've also fund them very informative if you just ring them up for a chat - they get a lot of feedback from anglers and are happy to share the info :)

For the record they recommend :-

Bomber Heavy Duty Jointed Long A

Mean Far Out

Mean Far Out Premier

Rapala Jointed Floating

Rebel Windcheater

Storm Saltwater Chug Bug

Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow

Yo-Zuri Magnum Arc Minnow

Yo-Zuri Tobi Minnow

I`ve a dozen or so small rapala`s. If you load the line with small ball lead weights its amazing how far you can cast them? Don`t leave them to sink before you start the retrieve though! Suddenly a 3ins floater becomes a mid-water diver? Well, I`ve caught one this year using this method. As none of those on the beach caught any, I must have been doing something right?

We don`t use J`s anymore!!

The best session I have ever had was with 7 oz. ABU egons. In 75 mins two of us caught 27 Bass that averaged 7.5 lbs in the Portland Race, but that was in the good old days of '76 when the shoals of Bass blotted out the bottom on the echo sounder.

Live baiting (poorcod or smelt) is the most reliable way to catch Bass. Two of us had 84 lb of Bass (16 fish) one evening in the entrance to Portland Harbour, but then again that was over 20 years ago.
