Lifejackets! Check this out URGENT and WORRYING!

I check the Irish Independent out for the Irish News most days and found the following frightening story and implications

I'm surprised the info on here hasn't sent shudders around the millions that use life jackets, that's if they know about it?

I'm also surprised this hasn't been broadcast on the major news channels??

 

I've checked mine as best I can but have fired off an email to Crewsaver just in case they use Halkey Roberts firiung mechanisms.

A tragic case and very worrying about the air valve malfunction.

 

It states that the uninflated side of the lifejacket filled with water and the weight of this dragged him under. This just does not happen, it is similar to the killer wader myth. The water in the lifejacket weighs the same as the water it is immersed in and so would have neutral bouyancy. The half of the jacket that was inflated had positive bouyancy and it may have been this which tipped his head to one side as it would have been unbalanced.

I have a Holkey Roberts valve on my Floattube and it operates perfectly I will also be checking my lifejacket.
