stripping down an old rod

Ok its ask an expert time.

I have an old rod with one of those spongy grips and a screw down reel seat.

How do i get the reel seat thing off the blank?

I've removed most of the "duplon ?" from each side but the reel seat wont budge any ideas?

Its actually a beach caster not a coarse rod but i doubt that makes any difference to the method of construction. I'm planning on fitting a more slimline reel seat as at the butt end its so bloomin big i can barely get my fingers around the rod.

everytime i catch a fish i'm lucky when i blank i'm a hopeless angler.

Terry, this may sound a bit drastic, but may be your only answer is to use heat. If the reel seat is metal and has been stuck in place with superglue/araldite or a heat fix glue, the careful use of a blowtorch will help.

Having said that, I would be more inclined to cut it away with a fine hacksaw blade, make the cuts along the axis and prise apart with a screwdriver or similar.

I have to agree with Den. I refurbed a boat-rod many years ago and I had remove a reel-seat in much the same way that Den has suggested. I used heat, hot water, petrol, a blade, a hack-saw, a vice, mole-grips and all manner of implements and methods and after 3 short months, I managed to get it free....lol Only kidding, it took me a few hours but I think if I had all of the above lying out at the beginning of the attempt, I would have shortened the fix by a considerable length of time. A clear demonstration that it would be advisable to prepare for the job. It will come off though I reckon.
