I'm looking for some reels with a baitfeeder/baitrunner facility for river barbel fishing.I will be using 10-12lb line and drennan series 7 1.5tc specialist avon rods.I'm hoping to spend no more than £45 on each reel.Any ideas..

I wouldn't look past a shimano.

For only a fiver more than your budget you can get one of the 6000re bairtunners. There's even the newer one, the ST baitrunner i think it's called and it's about £49.99 for the 6000 size.

That's a pretty blinkered view

Nice reels all the same.

Whatever reel you go for, get the size that balances your rod(s) properly. A lot of people get the biggest ones which are far too heavy for their rods.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

There is a 5000 size version of the new ST and it's more expensive sibling the DL, but for some reason it’s not yet available in the UK.

Probably a bit blinkered yes :P

I've used various shimanos for coarse fishing since the early 90's and had no trouble whatsoever with them.

The only other baitrunner type i've tried, were a couple of Okuma interceptors (used them on stalking rods for carp). Nice enough reels, but the free spool system had a nasty habbit of not engaging properly. Not a good sight seeing rods being dragged towards the water :o . I eventually replaced them with a pair of 5000re's.

Cheers for that,i already have a pair of 6000 aero gt's that i use for carpin and have also used them for barbel but felt a bit on the big side..I've been looking up the Okuma cassien 30 baitfeeders which look nice reels but the limited amount of time i would spend using them doesn,t justify spending £55 on each reel, maybe i should try and get a deal off my local tackle shop to get them under the £100 mark.
