Sri Lanka/India Help needed

Hi,

I will be travelling around Sri Lanka and India early in the New Year and while not primarily a Fishing Holiday I am going to try and get in as much as possible or allowed.

I plan on doing whatever type of fishing I get an opportunity to Salt, Fresh, Bait and Lure, For which I have decided on a Shimano Exage 330 Travel Rod which brings me to my question does any body have any recommendations on a Reel to go with it that would cover most if not all of any circumstances I might find myself in.

Thanks in Advance

Dave

I can't help but I know a man that can, maybe, I was hoping he may of looked in and saw this as he used to post on here. You need Keith T as he lived out there for some time & still goes out. You may find him on Barble fishing world or if you are a Barbel Society member then he will be on thier site.

Just post lyn said ask the shepherd!!

On that rod, I'd go with a 6000 size Shimano baitrunner - the best model you can afford.

For coastal fishing with lures, take some 5 and 6' minows like the Bomber Long A (upgrade all of the hooks) and some 4 and 5' shads. For Murrel, pack some size 3 and 4 Mepps as well as a selection of weedless surface lures like moss boss's and scumfrogs. Mahseer require a slightly more specialised aproach.

For bait fishing, go with whatever you're most comfortable with. UK type aproaches may not get you the biggest of fish but you should still catch.

For more information, do an all forums search on here or take a look at http://www.indianangler.com/index.php

Make sure you have at least two spools. I'd go with either 14lb fireline or 30lb PP on one (I 'd personally prefer the fireline) and 18 - 20lb mono on the other. If you can get 3 spools perhaps use the third one for messing about with freshwater float tackle with mono of 8lb or so. The Shimano isn't a great lure rod but it is versatile enough to be fished like an Avon style rod and will sufice in several roles.
