cheers for that newt we are curently trying to source some lime stone or chalk the only problem we have is we are not allowed to add it to the feeder stream as it is in agricultural land and the farmer is against us adding stone to it incase we flood his field. all this info is building a good picture as to why the returns have been sparce for the number of fish that are present.

does any one have any idea if we can just add chalk or lime directly to the water and if so how.

your thoughts on this would be helpfull.

and its strange people ignore free advice i say fish under your feet they stick their poles out at 14mtrs and complain of sparse reward

I very rarely fish very far out even on big lakes. I always catch when fishing no further than 12 yards out. Or even when fishing near weed i usually catch.

chester i think your heading in to a new topic if you'd like to start it on. WATERCRAFT LEARN THE BASICS.... i agree that alot of young anglers are brought up on comercials and are rarely on a natural water where your sense of watercraft and angling ability along with a confidence in your methods are paramount.i find alot of anglers are unwilling to take advice but then blame the water or thier equipment when they fail to catch.

one day i was taking permit numbers and there was a kid of about 12 with his dad ,i think it was his first time as the dad (a non angler) was looking in a book at float set ups .

anyway on my next visit in the afternoon i enquired if he had caught anything ,he replied nothing ,this was strange as theres plenty of little stuff that oblige in there .

i asked if he was fishing on the bottom he said yes! even stranger so i asked him to bring in his tackle .

i was stunned to see he was fishing far deeper than the actual water was although his float was perfectly set in the water the reason was it was directly weighted by the 2 locking shot ,as the rest came up i saw that he must have used most of the rest of his container of shot shot near the hook and with it being overdepth nailed to the bottom (probably well into the silt as well) any way i got him to take everything off whilst i trotted up the bank to get new permit numbers and sorted him out correctly on my return ,as i put on my crash helmet a whoop went up as he landed his first fish :D

most of the trouble lies is easy transport you can fish a new swim or even lake every trip even worse is people dont seem to use a plummet anymore ,i always fish the same swim i know what it looks like under water even better than i know it above and all in my minds eye ,and having seen the pond and its users everyday i know where the fish are, you may not take my advice but its free and willingly given.

another thing i have noticed is the increase in short rods  with a long one you can gently flick out your float underhand and with hardly a splash ,what annoys me when enjoying a quiet fish is the chap who's rod makes a huge swish as he forces it to cast a float to where i can get without a sound bar the plop of the shot hitting the water
